Turtle power

Auntie Mona is coming back from vacation today. She has been gone for about a week and a half, and Isaac misses her! I'm picking her up from the airport today, and then she is going to take Isaac for the whole day tomorrow. He'll love it... the picture is Isaac & Mona swimming at her house last month.

Isaac is now refusing to call anybody by their real name, and insists on using their Ninja Turtle names. He made a slight alteration in the naming, and I am now April. Maybe he finally realized Mom is a girl haha. He also gets ticked if I call him Isaac, and he goes "No Mom. Turtle." Oh, excuse me.

Seth is becoming such a HAPPY baby. He grins and giggles constantly, and his smile lights up his whole face. He especially likes when Isaac walks by.. when Isaac notices that he is smiling at him he says, "Look Mom! He is happy!" Warms my heart. I can't wait until they can actually play together!!

It has begun...

Sooo, Seth is already getting his first tooth. It started popping through a few days ago, and he is a drooling mess. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much, but it did make him learn how to suck his thumb! It is way early for him to be teething, but Isaac was early with his teeth too.

Speaking of Isaac, we had our first case of sibling fighting today. I went to take out a stinky diaper, and when I came back Seth was screaming. I asked Isaac what happened and he said "I hit him." Greaaaaat. It has begun! At least Isaac was honest about it, but now he is mad he can't watch Ninja Turtles. You don't get to watch Ninja Turtles if you hit your brother!

Isaac has been all about Ninja Turtles lately. Last night he told Kevin that he was Leonardo, Kevin was Donatello, I was Rapheal, Seth was Michaelangalo, and Feeney was April. Way cute.

Mom & Dad time!

Saturday night was the first night Seth stayed somewhere overnight! Both boys slept over at my Dad's house to give us a bit of a break & some sleep! Kevin & I saw a movie (The Hangover), and then went to have a few drinks with Mona & Jeremy. I did pretty well - only called to check up once! It was definitely strange not having to listen for a crying baby or entertain a 4 year old, but the sleep and relaxation was nice!

Speaking of sleep, Seth is finally letting me get some! He now goes to bed around 8 and doesn't wake up again until about 4. Lets me get a good chunk of sleepy time in.

I signed Isaac up for preschool today! It is right down the street, 3 days a week starting in September. We went to go see the facility today, and Isaac didn't want to leave. He was having fun with the kids & playing with the trains. When we were leaving he told me he wanted to go to school there. Too sweet! My big boy.

Sleep, please?

Seth has started sleeping in Isaac's room, because he completely outgrew the bassinet in our room. It has been 3 nights, and it is getting progressively better. The first night, nobody got any sleep. When Seth woke up at 2 am to eat, Isaac did too. The only difference - Isaac stayed awake. Isaac stayed awake until 4:30, just being loud. When he finally fell back asleep, Seth woke up for the day. That means Mommy only got about 3 hours of sleep!! Isaac is getting more used to it though, and pretty much going right back to sleep now. Usually when Seth wakes up I am awoken by Isaac saying, "SETH IS CRYING, MOM! GOTTA COME PICK HIM UP!" Even though it has been tiring, Isaac still wants Seth there. He keeps making sure Seth is going to sleep in his room.. loves his brother. :)

When we put them both to sleep last night, we heard Isaac over the baby monitor talking to Seth for about 20 minutes. Seth was apparently just listening, and had no problem falling asleep once Isaac was done talking to him. WAY CUTE.

Love my boys. :)

Brotherly love?

Isaac is upstairs making train noises. What else is new?

Seth is starting to react to Isaac, and it is so sweet. He looks around for Isaac whenever he hears him talk, and smiles whenever Isaac gets in his range of vision. This morning Isaac laid down next to him and they were smiling and talking to each other (Seth was of course just babbling).

We're going to have to move Seth into the crib in Isaac's room tonight, because he is getting way too big for the bassinet. We lay him down in it now and his toes touch the bottom while his head touches the top of it. I hope Isaac is okay with the middle of the night feedings! Hopefully he just falls right back asleep.

We're off to Kevin's mom's house today for her 50th birthday party. Isaac is excited to see Nana, Nicky, Ashley, and Natalie. He always has fun with his cousins.

money honey

It has been 3 months that I have been home/not working. I love being able to be home with the boys, but am dreading the day that my benefits run out and we will (gasp) be living on one income again. Trying to figure out a way to make money without having to put the boys in daycare is close to impossible. I'm also starting to go to school full time, so working on nights & weekends would leave me little time for school work.

I know we will make it work, it will just be a struggle for the next 3 or so years.

At least we have plenty of love goin around, and hey.. love is all you need.

Picture from Father's Day

Letter fun.

We have letter and number magnets for our refrigerator, and Isaac likes to play with them. He says the sounds the letters make, and what words start with each letter. He and Kevin were playing with them a few nights ago and I hear the following:

Kevin: What is P for?
Isaac: P IS FOR POOP!

Yes, Isaac.. yes it is.

Welcome to the 21st centuryry

Since my second son was born, I have been keeping a journal for my 2 boys. I figure I should maybe move into the 21st century, and convert it to a blog. My oldest, Isaac Wayne, was born on May 3, 2005. My youngest, Seth Ian, was born on May 7, 2009. Since I began writing on May 20, 2009, I'm going to go ahead and copy those entries here:

May 20, 2009
Seth gets a mean case of hiccups every day. They rock his whole existence haha. Isaac thinks they are called "haircups" and always points them out and mimics the sound.

After explaining to Isaac how Seth gets his food, he demonstrated how well he understood. He told me Seth was hungry, grabbed an empty bottle, and held it up to my boob. ..Cute kid...

Kevin goes back to work tomorrow! He took 2 weeks off after Seth was born to help out, so tomorrow will be my first official stay at home by myself mommy day. Wish me luck!

May 26, 2009
Seth is almost 3 weeks old, and thriving. He is already almost 10 pounds, and eats ALL THE TIME. He got his first bath yesterday, and didn't even cry! He looked confused the whole time, but at least he wasn't screaming.

Isaac is being an awesome big brother. He is a bit upset about getting a little less attention, but he doesn't take it out on Seth. He loves holding Seth (with help, of course) and tells him he loves him. He also likes helping with diaper changes, because he thinks Seth's little belly, arms, and legs are fascinating. We're also making sure Isaac gets plenty of mom & dad time. I read his Thomas book to him every night before bed, and sing him his special song. He also got to go with dad to get ice cream today.

Last Saturday was the family reunion at Del Valle. We brought the boys so everyone could meet Seth. We are still sleep deprived, so Kevin, Seth, and I only stayed a couple of hours. Isaac was having so much fun that he stayed with Grandpa. He came home around 8 covered in dirt and with 2 skinned knees.. sure sign that the boy had fun!

June 2, 2009
Isaac was at daycare today, so Seth and I went to visit Auntie Mona at Zac's Cafe. I got to eat an awesome breakfast, and Auntie Mona got some baby time.

Isaac is doing awesome with the potty training. We had some issues once Seth got home from the hospital, but they seem to have cleared up.

LOVE MY 2 BOYS!

We took family photos yesterday.. it did not go so well! We got great pictures of Seth, because he is too little to object. Isaac, however, looked like his puppy died in every picture. He is too much like his mom! Has his own mind and won't do anything he doesn't want to. He is not a performer. I'm sure we'll look back at the pictures in 10 years and think they are hilarious.

Seth is a month old now... TIME FLIES. He is developing so fast. Already 12 pounds (95th percentile for his age), and holds his head up for quite some time on his own. Very strong, and he is more and more active every day. He definitely focuses on our faces now, and recognizes voices, Isaac is becoming more and more involved, so I think Seth will start responding to him shortly. I hope they are friends. I want so badly for them to experience toe same closeness that Mona and I did. Time will tell!

What a busy weekend/week! Last Saturday we went to Pittsburg for Christina's son's 3rd birthday party. It was at a park, so Isaac had fun. They also had a jumper, which he always loves. The girls from work all held Seth, and it was great to see them. I sometimes think I miss work, but it is really just the people! I made such good friends there.

Sunday was Mona's graduation party (she graduated from her MBA program). It was at my Dad's house. Both sides of the family were there, which never happens! Everyone got to meet Seth. Isaac brought his Razor scooter and played with cousin Josephine.

Seth will be 6 weeks old on Thursday, and he is starting to smile. :)

So busy! Seth is almost 2 months old now. Staying awake longer during the day, smiling (so sweet), and cooing. Isaac likes staying home with me. He never wants to go to daycare anymroe, but going part time is good for him to socialize & good for a little break for me. He has SO MUCH energy. We've been reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and his Curious George book every day. We won't be able to afford preschool, so I'm working hard with him! He knows all of his letters, can count, and knows his colors and shapes. So smart!
